Today, is a day that we, as a country, celebrate and remember Martin Luther King, Jr. Today, we remember a man that stood as a "dream for people to be judged by character instead of by their color". Today, Liberty University had a speaker who has been known to judge people for their religious backgrounds, their gender...
The convocation started with President Jerry Falwell, Jr. stating that Liberty University doesn't endorse any candidates. But then Falwell proceeded to point out Trumps good financial giving and even quoted Matthew 7:16, "know them by their fruit". And applauded Trump for his financial giving. Falwell compared Trump's goodness to the goodness of his father. Does good financial fruit produce more than any other fruit?
President Falwell stated that the President of our country doesn't have to be "theologically correct or anything that it takes to lead a church". He stated that he believed Trump was the best option for President, if that isn't an endorsement... (sure it isn't a financial endorsement but it sure was a verbal one). Does our country need to judge people based on gender and their religious backgrounds to make America great again? Does the candidate for the highest political office of our country need to use hate speech and name call to make America great again? In his speech today, Trump lifted up women but then we look back he has stated degrading statements about women.
Trump promised to protect Christianity. Note: He was talking to a Christian audience. But will he protect other religions?
YOU SEE THE CROSS DOES NOT NEED PROTECTING... IT NEEDS PICKED UP. Sure, it needs it's believers defending and proclaiming Christ's gospel But at the same time the cross is an image of war. It is the very weapon that God raged war against sin... in His death Christ paid for the sins of all and in His resurrection He had victory over sin and death and defeated sin and evil. Jesus didn't ask for protection... why should we his followers demand protection? Shouldn't we trust the God we proclaim? I do not believe Christianity needs protected more than any other religion in this country. It is not weaker. It is worth defending and standing for and if we are uncomfortable proclaiming Truth... those nails were not comfortable for Him.
I wish my school would match their words to what we are taught in their classes.
